OPENING of LLGC Paurotis Pool, Tennis/Pickleball and Bocce Courts Wednesday June 3rd at 8am

Bocce

Bocce, also called bocci or boccie,  is a relaxed but strategic game with an ancient lineage. Although emerging from ancient Egypt during the era that the Roman Emperor, Caesar Augustus, conquered Egypt or about two decades B. C. Bocce was brought to Rome where it became popular and thereafter introduced throughout Europe, also evolving into other ball rolling games including lawn bowling. It gained massive popularity with the influx of Italian immigrants in the Americas at the turn of the 20th century.

A bocce ball set has 8 balls weighing approximately 1 Kilo (2 pounds) each and one small ball (pallino) which is the size of a golf ball or billiard ball. The game of bocce involves a team of 2 to 4 players competing against a similar number of players on an opposing team. The objective is to roll the bocce closest to the pallino.

Points are awarded, 1 point per ball placed closest to the pallino of the same team. Game points are set by the competing teams and can range from 8 to 21 points; most popular is 11 points for a game. The competing team that reaches the game points wins the game.

Bocce court size ranges from about 8  to 12 feet wide and 60 to 90 feet long. The Lost Lake community currently has two bocce courts, one League of 3 divisions and 8 teams per division.
